Library Books
Soon, the students will start visiting the library and signing out books. You child’s teacher will let you know when the books should be returned for exchange. Should your child lose a book, there is a $10.00 fee to replace the book (this does not cover the cost of MOST books). If you would prefer your child not sign out books, please contact your child’s teacher to inform him/her.
Parent Information Session
The WQSB is holding a virtual information session on September 11 at 6:30pm for anyone interested in learning more about getting involved in educational committees. The focus will be on Governing Board, Parent committee and Special Education Advisory Committee, as well as roles of the Council of Commissioners. You should have already received the information via email with the link.
Governing Board
Our Annual General Assembly will be held directly after the BBQ on September 18. The Governing Board (GB) is a decision-making body on behalf of the whole school population’s interests. They make decisions or recommendations on a variety of aspects of school life. There is a minimum of 6 meetings a year (we typically do one per month) for 1 hr. The meetings have previously begun at 6:00pm. We finalize dates at our first meeting, but they have been held on the last Wednesday of the month in previous years. Please see the attached memo for more information if you’re interested. Even if you do not want to be a member of the GB, please come out for the process. In the event we have more than 6 interested candidates, you will vote for the one you want to represent you as a parent.
This year we are looking for:
6 parent seats each holding a 2-year term.
Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
If you are interested in putting your name forward to be part of SEAC, please submit your information to me, no later than Sept. 30. Your child must have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in order to be eligible for this committee. The selection of members for this committee will be made at the first Parent Committee meeting. This is not a school-based committee but rather a board-based committee.
Emergency Preparedness
We will be going through our emergency preparedness procedures over the next two weeks. There will be two fire drills this week.
Back to School BBQ/Meet the Teacher
Our amazing Home and School is hosting a Back-to-School BBQ on September 18 at 3:45. There will be games and BBQ items for purchase.
You will have an opportunity to see your child’s classroom and meet the teacher prior to the BBQ on September 18. Please keep in mind, this drop in is not an opportunity to chat about your child’s progress but rather see where your child learns and ask some general questions about classroom routines. Teachers will also be out at the BBQ after 3:45 but you will no longer have access to the classrooms.
Picture Day
Picture Day is scheduled for October 3.
Health Emergency Forms
We have sent home all the health forms. Please check the form for accuracy, complete any missing information and return the form to us as soon as possible. We will have to contact all parents/guardians who do not send back the forms. You can imagine that it is a timely process. Thank you for your help.
School Calendar
I am sending home a new calendar. The one I sent last week had an error on it as it was an earlier draft rather than our finalized calendar.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
