Hello Everyone,
We have now had all of our students here for at least one day and tomorrow all students will be at school for a full day, including our kindergarten students. Below is some information on what is happening at Eardley.
Frist Days of School
Establishing routines is a very important part of school life. Starting Thursday, parents will not be permitted into the yard with their child in the morning. If you have concerns about your child knowing where to go, please contact your child’s teacher. We also have several adults in the yard to support the process while children are getting used to routines.
Governing Board
Our Annual General Assembly will be held directly after the BBQ on September 18. The Governing Board (GB) is a decision-making body on behalf of the whole school population’s interests. They make decisions or recommendations on a variety of aspects of school life. There is a minimum of 6 meetings a year (we typically do one per month) for 1 hr. The meetings have previously began at 6:00pm. We finalize dates at our first meeting but they have been held on the last Wednesday of the month in previous years. Please see the attached memo for more information if you’re interested. Even if you do not want to be a member of the GB, please come out for the process. In the event we have more than 6 interested candidates, you will vote for the one you want to represent you as a parent.
This year we are looking for:
6 parent seats each holding a 2-year term.
K4 Parents
You will receive a survey link from Table Éducation Outaouis (TEO) in order for them to understand the needs of English speaking 4-year-olds and their families with regard to early reading. You will have until September 21 to complete the survey if you choose.
Drop off and Pick up
Reminder that students who are not registered for daycare cannot come to school prior to 7:45am. We do not have supervision for children prior to that time.
Emergency Preparedness
We will be going though our emergency preparedness procedures over the next two weeks. The first will be a walk through of our Lock Down procedures on Thursday.
Civics Assembly
We will be holding our civics assemblies this week. This assembly is to go over the school rules and Code of Conduct.
Recess Toys
Students are permitted to bring some items to play with at recess such as balls, plastic mini sticks and skipping ropes, etc. They are not permitted to bring large items such as full size or cut hockey sticks, baseball bats, lacrosse sticks, hard balls, plastic frisbees, etc. If you are unsure, please contact your child’s teacher.
Back to School BBQ
Our amazing Home and School is hosting a Back-to-School BBQ on September 18 at 3:30. There will be games and BBQ items for purchase.
Meet the Teacher
You will have an opportunity to see your child’s classroom and meet the teacher prior to the BBQ on September 18. Please keep in mind, this drop is not an opportunity to chat about your child’s progress but rather see where your child learns and ask some general questions about classroom routines. Teachers will also be out at the BBQ after 3:30 but you will not have access to the classrooms.
Picture Day
Picture Day is scheduled for October 3.
Process for Questions
If you have a question about classroom routines or want more information about something your child shared with you, the best course of action is to ask the classroom teacher first. They establish their classroom routines and spend the most time with your child during the day. If you are unsure who to contact, then please contact me and I will forward your email/message to the correct person.
Transportation
Transportation information is no longer available on Mosaik. If you have transportation questions, please forward them to Ashley Kelly, our office agent at AshleyKelly@wqsb.qc.ca.
Respectful Communication
The beginning of the school year is a stressful time for everyone. Parents/Guardians getting back into routine or sending their little ones off for the first time, school staff getting to know their student needs and planning their days accordingly, office staff are trying to convey information as well as organize things for the 350 or so students, their staff and their parents/guardians. There are some issues that pop up. Some we have direct control over, others are not done at the school level. We all strive for perfection but very few of us attain it. With that said, the expectation is that communication is always respectful. It simply will not take place any other way.
Weekly Questions
The first thing your child will do in class each Monday morning (Tuesday this week) is chat with their class about the question of the week. Today’s question was “What does is really mean to be a good friend?”. You might want to chat with your child at home as well. You might prompt with how do you know you have a good friend? What do you look for in a good friend? How can you be sure to be a good friend? Some of the topics we spoke about in the classes I visited was allowing your friends to make their own decisions about games or other friendships, and when a joke isn’t received as a joke.
Home and School
This is a great way for you to get involved in your child’s school and make some great connections and friendships in the process. Consider becoming a Home and School member.
Please see the attached information regarding hot lunch options provided through Home and School.
