Does Your Child Have Special Needs?
An online information session on the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) will be offered on May 19 at 6:30 p.m. The RDSP is a long-term savings plan designed to support children with special needs who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit. It helps families plan for their child’s future, with flexible contribution options. In some cases, depending on family income, contributions may not be required. The government grants available through the RDSP can provide significant financial benefits over time. Families are encouraged to attend this session to learn more about how the RDSP can help support their child’s future. Please see the attached flyer and link below for more information.
Monday Morning Question
Every Monday students have a question that is discussed as a classroom community. You may want to have the same question as a family, bringing home and school together. This week’s question is what’s one strategy you use when you get stuck on something?
Upcoming PD Day
May 15- daycare services are available for those who have registered.
Kindergarten Orientation Save the Date
June 5- Eardley will hold a kindergarten orientation. More information will be provided soon.
Rain or Shine Recess Reminder
Please make sure to send your child with warm, waterproof clothing for rainy days. Please also send a change of clothes, including our senior students, so they can change if they get wet.
Canadian public health and pediatric authorities consistently support that:
Outdoor play in all seasons, including rainy conditions, is beneficial for children’s physical, mental, and emotional health when they are appropriately dressed and safe.
Key Ideas behind Rain or Shine Recess
Rain itself is not harmful:
- Illness is caused by viruses, not getting wet outdoors (a widely accepted public health principle reflected in outdoor play guidance).
Outdoor play is beneficial year-round:
- Including colder, wetter, and variable weather conditions when children are properly dressed.
The benefits come from:
- movement and physical activity
- exposure to nature and sensory experiences
- freedom, creativity, and reduced stress
- resilience-building through varied environments
Grade 6 Graduation
Graduation will take place June 19 at 10:30am. Please bring a chair as there will only be seating for graduates.
Preparing Your Child for a School Community
Eardley is pleased to offer a three-part webinar series featuring Dr. Deborah MacNamara. This series is designed to provide practical strategies to help families support their children as they navigate and grow within the school community.
Dr. MacNamara is a counsellor, author, and researcher whose work focuses on child development and the relationships that support healthy growth. She helps caregivers better understand children’s needs so they can foster strong connections and create environments where children can thrive at home, at school, and beyond.
While each session stands on its own, attending all three can offer a more well-rounded perspective, as the topics naturally complement one another. To learn more about Dr. MacNamara and her work, please visit: https://macnamara.ca/about#/.
Who’s in Charge? Why Kids Need Caring Leaders
An increasing number of children and adolescents are presenting as dominant, demanding, and controlling in their relationships with adults—at home and in the classroom. When the tables turn and children assume positions of dominance, the child–adult relationship becomes strained, learning becomes harder to sustain, and both adults and children can feel stuck in exhausting power struggles. This presentation helps parents and educators make sense of why this shift is happening, why many well-intended strategies inadvertently intensify it, and what children are communicating through dominant behaviour. Through a developmental and relational lens, participants gain clarity about how adults can reclaim their leadership role with warmth, confidence, and care—restoring conditions in which children can relax, receive guidance, and grow toward their full developmental potential.

Tears and Tantrums: Understanding Frustration and Aggression
The expression of frustration and aggression in children and teens can take on many forms including temper tantrums and various forms of attack. Part of making headway requires understanding the roots of frustration and aggression and how to deal with the resulting behaviours. This presentation will focus on strategies for dealing with a frustrated child while preserving one’s relationship to them. It will address the importance of setting limits and helping children learn they can survive futilities that are part of life.
