Monday Morning Question
Every Monday students have a question that is discussed as a classroom community. You may want to have the same question as a family, bringing home and school together. This week’s question is, what does it mean to be a good role model in school?
Ministry Exams
Our grade 6 Ministry ELA exam began May 19. This exam is worth 20% of your child’s final mark. We ask that you try as much as possible not to miss school during the assessment period as it is difficult to catch students up when they return. If your child is ill, we understand they will be away.
Upcoming PD Day
June 5- daycare services are available for those who have registered.
Kindergarten Orientation
June 5- Eardley will hold a kindergarten orientation. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Grade 6 Graduation
Graduation will take place June 19 at 10:30am. This will be an outdoor celebration. Families are asked to bring a portable chair as there will only be seating for our graduates. Should the weather not cooperate, we will be forced to move the ceremony indoors but there will be a guest limit of 2 people per graduate due to space limitations.
Grade 6 Graduation Slide Show
This year, I will be putting together a slideshow for the graduating students. I ask that you send in one email a Kindergarten photo, or one of kindergarten age and a recent photo of your child. If you would like your child included, the slide show will be played within the school and shared with you all via email. Please send me the photos by May 29.
Governing Board
Our next Governing Board meeting is May 27.
Preparing Your Child for a School Community
Eardley is pleased to offer the third session featuring Dr. Deborah MacNamara. This series is designed to provide practical strategies to help families support their children as they navigate and grow within the school community.
Dr. MacNamara is a counsellor, author, and researcher whose work focuses on child development and the relationships that support healthy growth. She helps caregivers better understand children’s needs so they can foster strong connections and create environments where children can thrive at home, at school, and beyond.
While each session stands on its own, attending all three can offer a more well-rounded perspective, as the topics naturally complement one another. To learn more about Dr. MacNamara and her work, please visit: https://macnamara.ca/about#/.
Tears and Tantrums: Understanding Frustration and Aggression
The expression of frustration and aggression in children and teens can take on many forms including temper tantrums and various forms of attack. Part of making headway requires understanding the roots of frustration and aggression and how to deal with the resulting behaviours. This presentation will focus on strategies for dealing with a frustrated child while preserving one’s relationship to them. It will address the importance of setting limits and helping children learn they can survive futilities that are part of life.

Family Picnic- Save the Date
You’re invited to join us for a picnic in our yard on the last day of school (June 23). All you need is a lawn chair and a packed lunch. Classes will decide on a meeting space and eat together as a classroom community during our regular lunch hour (11:25am). It’s a nice way to end the year and celebrate as a class with our families.
Planning for Next Year-Program Changes
We have begun planning for next year. If you are considering a program change for your child, French Immersion to English for example, please contact me. It is important that we finalize numbers as we prepare for class groupings for the 26-27 school year. It seems easy to make class changes once the year begins but it is not. Our classes are organized with maximum capacity in mind. Please make these requests now.
Transportation Reminder
Students are welcome to bring personal items such as balls to school; however, for safety reasons and in accordance with transportation procedures, these items must be contained inside the student’s school bag or a handbag while onboard the bus.
We also respectfully ask that any concerns or questions regarding transportation procedures be directed to the school or transportation office rather than addressed directly with drivers while they are operating their route. This helps ensure a safe and respectful environment for both students and drivers.
Family Activity Night
Thank you to all the families who attended the Western Quebec Literacy Council Family Activity Nights. This has been our most successful year in terms of attendance, and we look forward to continuing with the initiative next year.
Grade 6 Graduation Fundraiser
There will be a BBQ fundraiser at the Monastère on May 23 from 10:00-3:00.
Have a great weekend!
