    What’s Happening at Eardley? September 11, 2026

    Hello Everyone,

Please see the information below about what is happening in the school.

    Provincial Election

October 5 will be a PD Day due to provincial elections. Daycare services will be available for those who registered. Please note, daycare will close at 4:00pm to allow employees time to vote. April 16 will now be a regular school day.

    Parking

Please ensure that you park in the designated visitor parking spaces, which are located along the row closest to the school. There are also a limited number of staff parking spaces at the far end of the lot near the pick-up area. Visitor parking spaces are marked.

    Governing Board

Our Annual General Assembly will be held directly after the BBQ on September 17 at 6:00. The Governing Board (GB) is a decision-making body on behalf of the whole school population’s interests. They make decisions or recommendations on a variety of aspects of school life. There is a minimum of 6 meetings a year (we typically do one per month) for 1 hr. The meetings have previously begun at 6:00pm. We finalize dates at our first meeting but they have been held on the last Wednesday of the month in previous years. Please see the attached memo for more information if you’re interested. Even if you do not want to be a member of the GB, please come out for the process. This year, we have two vacant spots to fill. In the event we have more than 2 interested candidates, you will vote for the one you want to represent you as a parent.

This year we are looking for:

2 parent seats each holding a 2-year term.

    Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

If you are interested in putting your name forward to be part of SEAC, please submit your information to me, no later than Sept. 30. Your child must have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in order to be eligible for this committee. The selection of members for this committee will be made at the first Parent Committee meeting. This is not a school-based committee but rather a board-based committee.

The mandate of the SEAC as outlined in the Education Act can be found on the WQSB website at the following link: https://westernquebec.ca/about/governance/#seac

    Emergency Preparedness

We have been practicing our emergency preparedness procedures this week and will continue into next week. Students may come home talking about Lock Out (Fire Drill) and Lock Downs.

Back to School BBQ/Meet the Teacher

We are excited to share that our amazing Home and School Association will be hosting a Back-to-School BBQ on September 17 at 3:45 p.m. There will be games and activities for all ages, as well as BBQ items available for purchase. Please see the attached flyer for the BBQ menu and pricing information. To help you beat the line, families will have the option to pre-purchase tickets this year.

Prior to the BBQ, families are invited to visit their child’s classroom and meet their teacher between 3:00 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. on September 17. This informal drop-in is an opportunity to see where your child learns and to ask general questions about classroom routines and expectations.

Please note that this is not intended to be a time for discussions about your child’s progress or individual learning needs. Teachers will also be joining families at the BBQ after 3:45 p.m., and classrooms will no longer be accessible after 3:40 p.m.

    Home and School

Please see the attached Home and School hot lunch menu and dates.

Our Home and School Association operates entirely through the dedication of volunteers. We encourage you to consider getting involved, whether it’s helping with a single event or becoming a regular volunteer. Your support helps create enriching experiences for all Eardley students.

    Picture Day

Picture Day is scheduled for October 2.

    Health Emergency Forms

We have sent home health information forms. Please review the form carefully, verify that all information is accurate, complete any missing sections, and return it to the school as soon as possible. Having up-to-date health information is essential to ensuring your child’s safety and well-being at school. If forms are not returned, Ms. Ashley will need to follow up with families individually to obtain the required information, which can be a time-consuming process. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support in helping us keep our records current.

Have Questions? Start with the Teacher

If you have questions about classroom routines or something your child shared, your child’s teacher is the best place to start. They know your child and their daily environment best. If you’re not sure who to contact, reach out to the school office, and we’ll happily direct your message to the right person.

    Weekly Question

Each week your child will take part in class discussion around the question of the week. This week’s question was “Why is it a good thing when the people in your class like different things?”. You may want to chat with your child at home as well.

    Terry Fox Walk

Students will be participating in the Terry Fox walk on Monday, September 28. Please see the link below should you wish to contribute to our fundraising efforts for cancer research. Students are expected to attend all scheduled school-day events. Staffing and supervision plans are based on full student participation. Please make sure you have signed and returned your child’s community walk form.

    PD Days

September 18 is our first PD Day. Daycare services are available for those who registered. Please note, daycare closes at 5:00pm on PD Days.
