What’s Happening at Eardley?
We are back into the full swing of things! Please see below for some updates.
Home and School
If you are looking to join a group of parents/guardians who are active in school life and do so very much for our school community, look no further. It is also great way for some of our new families to make some connections. You can volunteer for all the events or only certain events. Many hands make for light work! Please see the message below from our Home and School.
Eardley Home and School are looking for active volunteers and participants to join our kickbutt team! Without volunteers our events and fundraisers cannot happen.
Please use our new sign up form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfgonhIrTnFwX0CL6uVqbsrZ3CcqUkNCgxlcl8usovJHSa4uA/viewform
If you have any questions, please email eardleyhs@gmail.com
Annual General Assembly (AGA)
The AGA is where we elect parents/guardians to our Governing Board. From the elected members, we will also elect a representative and an alternate to the Parent Committee. Please see the attached document outlining the process, roles and responsibilities of each body. Note correction that nominees must be in attendance at the AGA and cannot submit a written statement. This is a very important part of the school and cannot run without enough parent/guardian members. We currently have 2 two-year mandate seats that need to be filled. The virtual meetings, for the most part, are monthly and last year, lasted approximately an hour.
Back-to-School BBQ/Meet the Teacher Night
The Home and School is hosting a Back-to-School BBQ on September 12 from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Your child’s teacher will inform you when they will be in their classroom so you can see your child’s class, meet the teacher, ask some general classroom procedure questions. They are volunteering during the BBQ so the classrooms will not be open the whole time. Remember, this is not an interview. We are still getting to know your child so no individual student information will be shared.
Photomania
Photo Day is September 11. Below is an example of the 2 sample poses for this year. The clothing recommendations from Photomania for best photo results are: Neutral colors such as blue, brown, beige, black and denim (jeans) are excellent choices.
Respectful Communication
The beginning of the school year is a stressful time for everyone. Parents/Guardians getting back into routine or sending their little ones off for the first time, school staff getting to know their student needs and planning their days accordingly, office staff trying to convey information as well as organize things for the 380-ish students, their staff and their parents/guardians and let’s not forget the deadlines all parties have to work within. There are some issues that pop up. Some we have direct control over, others are not done at the school level. We all strive for perfection but very few of us attain it. With that said, the expectation is that communication is always respectful. It simply will not take place any other way.
Health Emergency Forms
We have sent home all the health forms. Please check the form for accuracy, complete any missing information and return the form to us as soon as possible. We will have to contact all parents/guardians who do not send back the forms. You can imagine that it is a timely process. Thank you for your help.
Hotdog Day
Our Home and School will be providing a hotdog lunch option to those who are interested in purchasing. More details will follow.
Mazzola
Please see the attached menu for the Mazzola hot lunch options.
We are looking forward to a fun filled year of community and learning.

Last Week Final Words
Thank you so much for a great first year at Eardley. I have loved getting to know your children and you. It has been a year of learning and transition, and I am already looking forward to next year, with one year of Eardley experiences under my belt.
I would like to send out a special thank you to the Eardley Home and School. This group of committed parents/guardians has brought so much fun, excitement and positive energy into our school. Everything they do goes directly back into making Eardley a fun, safe learning space. Thank you so much!
I would also like to thank the Eardley Staff. Not only have they worked to create engaging lessons, reflected on teaching and adapted for individual learner needs, they also went above and beyond each day for your child’s success in academics and everyday life. I feel very fortunate to have worked with and learn from you all this year.
Please see below for information about this last week of the 23/24 school year.
Graduation
June 18 at 10:00 is the Grade 6 Graduation. Parents/Guardians are invited to arrive at 9:45. Please bring a chair as chairs will only be provided for graduates. Parking is VERY limited, please park legally on the street. Please do not park along the exit lane of the parking lot as that is an emergency exit. The graduation ends at 11:30, at which time graduates will go back to their classes to continue the graduation celebration. If you would like to take your child home with you following the ceremony, please let your child’s teacher know prior to the event. This will avoid wait times to sign your child out at the office.
Water Fun and Subway Day
June 19 is Water Fun Day and Subway Day. Students will be taking part in different water activities throughout the day. Please pack a bathing suit or change of clothes. Please also apply sunscreen to your child prior to leaving the house for the day.
Students who submitted the Subway order form will be provided a 6-inch Subway sub for lunch. Please provide your child with snacks and drinks for the day.
Bouncy Castles
June 20, we will have bouncy castles at school. Students will follow scheduled times to have some bouncy castle fun.
Family Picnic
June 21, we invite you to come have a picnic lunch in the backyard with your child and their class. Families can arrive at 11:20 and make their way to the backyard. Please do not enter the school yard prior to that time. Students will make their way out to a teacher designated area. Families are asked to bring a blanket or chairs and a packed lunch. We will have one last class meal together as a class. Home and School has also arranged for a few fun activities. If you would like to take your child home with you, please contact your child’s teacher prior to the day to avoid wait times signing your child out at the office. Please also remember to park legally along the street and to not park in the exit lane as this is an emergency exit.
Request Reminder
Parents/guardians will often request specific teachers or classmates for their child. We cannot take these types of requests. There is a tremendous amount of movement throughout the summer months right up to the day before school starts due to late registrations.
Change of Program Reminder
If you are considering a change of program for your child, please contact the school as soon as possible. Our class groupings are created based on the number of children in each program and staffing is allocated accordingly. Changes are not possible after classes begin in August.
Lost and Found
We have sent out photos of the lost and found. There is an incredible amount of unclaimed items. Labelling your child’s items is so important in ensuring they are returned to them. Please have a look at the photos or come visit the foyer area to claim lost items. All items will be donated after June 21.
Medication at School
If your child has oral medication that is kept at school, please make arrangements to pick it up. Asthma pumps and EpiPen’s will be sent home with your child on the last day of classes. Any oral medication must be picked up by an adult.
School Fees
We still have school fees that have not yet been paid. Please login to Mosaik, the parent portal, to find the amount of your fees and to clear these balances as soon as possible.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Events
Social Media Parent/Guardian Presentation
May 30, Eardley is hosting a workshop for adults on Social Media. The presentation is online and begins at 5:00pm. We hope to provide information that allows parents/guardians to be better equipped to monitor their child’s social media use. Flyers have been sent previously for this event.
Drag Story Hour
May 31, Eardley is hosting an afterschool event. We would like to invite families to come for an evening of inclusion and fun. The doors open at 5:30pm and the show begins at 6:00pm.
Friendship Breakfast
June 3, we are having another Friendship Breakfast to celebrate the end of the school year. Please see the flyer sent earlier this week for more information. We are looking for donations to make this event a success.
Track and Field Day
June 4 will be the Jr. Track and Field Day and June 6 will be the Sr. Track and Field Day. Students will participate and compete in a variety of events throughout the day. Please make sure children have appropriate clothing and footwear for the day. Extra water and sunscreen are highly recommended.
Deborah MacNamara
June 6 join us at South Hull Elementary School from 6:00pm-8:00pm the Aylmer schools and Deborah MacNamara are hosting an in-person session entitled “Who’s in Charge? Why Adults Need to Lead”. A growing number of children are presenting as demanding, prescriptive, bossy, and
controlling. A disturbing number of these alpha children are turning into bullies as well. Alpha
children tend to have difficulties letting themselves be parented or taught. This is making the
child-adult dance much more difficult than it used to be or needs to be, despite the plethora of
advice-given and strategies available today. The surprising roots of the alpha complex will be
examined, opening the doors for lasting change in the family, classroom, and society.
Kindergarten Open House
June 7, new Kindergarten students and their adults are invited to visit Eardley and learn more about our program. Students, parent and guardians will visit classrooms, visit our adventure playground, have an opportunity to gain information about and register for daycare services, and speak with partners, Eardley Home and School, Connexions, Early Intervention supports and more.
Family Activity Night
On June 13 at 5:00pm, please join us for our final Family activity Night of the year. The topic will be Pen Pals and Western Quebec Literacy Council will have books available for your child to take home.
Family Picnic
June 21, we invite you to come have a picnic lunch in the backyard with your child and their class. This is a good way to have a classroom and school community last meal of the school year together. All you need is a packed lunch, chair/blanket and your time.
Weather
As you know, the weather is forever changing. Please ensure your child is dressed for the heat. Labelling sweatshirts will allow us to return lost items as the temperature rises throughout the day. Sunscreen applied prior to coming to school is also recommended as we try to spend more time outside.
Individual Education Plans (IEP)
We are in the process of creating and inviting parents/guardians to contribute to and sign IEP’s. Ideally, these meetings are held in person. We understand that life gets busy, so online or telephone meetings can be arranged if needed.
Parking Lot
I would like to send another reminder regarding the parking lot. Please walk your child through the parking area as many children do not typically have a lot of car safety awareness when in a parking lot. This is also a reminder that during pick up time, please do not park in the exit lane. That is a NO PARKING area.
Toys at School
This is a reminder that students should not be bringing toys to school, this includes Pokemon cards. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items and these items are very dear to your children.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Ministry Exams
Ministry assessments have begun and will continue through June. Although we do not want to create stress for students by highlighting these evaluation situations as something more than another piece of evidence towards their learning, we would like to request that your children be present at school as much as possible. Catching students up for missed classes can be a challenge due to the limited time frame for administration of the assessments. Thank you in advance for your support.
Illnesses
As in any elementary school, common illnesses/inconvenient ailments are a frequent occurrence. Please do not send your child to school if their symptoms are present and negatively impacting their day. If your child is showing signs of discomfort, we will call home for pick up. Parking Lot Reminder
We need your help to keep the parking area safe. The parking lot does not have a lot of extra space and children often do not have parking lot awareness. Please escort your child to a safe place when dropping them off. Please also be cautious when navigating the spaces and lot in general. Aside from being busy and having people in the lot, there has been damage done to vehicles. Finally, there is no parking along the exit of the lot. If there are no spaces, please park on the street and walk in to pick up your child.
Change of Clothing and Indoor Shoes
This is a friendly reminder to make sure your child’s indoor shoes still fit. We are reminding children to change their shoes when they go outside and come indoors. This is also a great time to inquire about your child’s change of clothing, making sure the items fit and are appropriate for the warmer weather we are all hoping for.
